Union Canal

In the early to mid 1800’s, the Union Canal Tunnel, the oldest existing transportation tunnel in the United States, was a connecting link between the eastern and western branches of the Union Canal. The Tunnel received recognition as a National Historic Landmark by the Secretary of the United States Department of the Interior on April 19, 1994. Today, the Union Canal Tunnel Park boasts hiking trails, fishing, and picnic facilities. The Lebanon County Historical Society and the Friends of Union Canal are responsible for the park’s existence and maintenance. Special community events, such as Union Canal Days and canal rides, are held annually at this park.
